Job Summary:
The Welder is responsible for permanently joining metal parts using high heat application to form a permanent bond. May specialize in one of hundreds of different processes of welding to join metals together.
Detailed Job Description:
- Analyze blueprints and structural drawings to layout the framework
- Carry out welding operations under intense conditions such as extreme heights, confined spaces and inclement weather
- Set equipment to weld in vertical, horizontal, flat or overhead positions
- Set-up and use an oxygen/acetylene torch for cutting purposes
- Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding
- Apply welding processes such as GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) or SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)
- Utilizes all hand tools and grinders
- Carry out post-welding treatment of structures by cleaning, buffing, and polishing finished workpieces
- Inspect and evaluate welds to ensure they are free of defect and conform to set specifications
- Troubleshoot structures to identify and initiate repair of welding defects
- Follow housekeeping procedures and other safety regulations
