Masinloc, Zambales – Local government officials and AES Philippines partners gathered today, 15th of December 2015, to mark the start of construction of the new Battery Energy Storage Array. This project will provide a 10-megawatt of interconnected capacity to the Luzon grid. This pioneering project, located at the Masinloc Plant in Zambales, will be the first grid-scale battery energy storage (BES) facility in Southeast Asia. During the groundbreaking ceremony, AES Philippines’ Managing Director – Mr. Neeraj Bhat, explained the benefits of battery energy storage. He emphasized that the BES plants are much more flexible, precise, and fast. “They can either charge or discharge energy, respond precisely to operator signals, and dispatch across their entire capacity range in less than a second.”
